"Excellent for QUICK builds in educator/Scouting environments"

I was asked to teach part of the Space Exploration Merit Badge to about 50 Scouts for a Spring Camporee. It sounded fun until I was told I would only have 3 hours to build 50 rockets, and then fly and recover each and every one of them __twice__ (!!). Oh, and the only field I'd have access to is about 150 feet x 75 feet. Using only these kits and a few tubes of plastic cement to be shared among the crowd, along with 3 other adults and 9 launch pads, we actually finished the job with 20 minutes to spare!! For the completely-uninitiated, it will take about 15 minutes in a group setting (pacing with the lowest common denominator) to put the kit together. For those kids that are mechanically adept, good with their hands and can follow instructions, you can trim that to 6-8 minutes. The kits snap together and glue in 2 places. The hardest part is getting the fins to stay in while you glue the two halves of the body together -- having a second set of hands helps. On 1/2A3 motors, these go about 250 feet, which means that on a calm day you don't need much more than a small field for launch/recovery. Streamer recovery means they aren't going to drift much. One thing I'll mention is that the inner motor mount tube (MMT) extends the length of the outer plastic body tube shell. The streamer gets rolled and packed into the 1/2A-sized MMT, and the nose cone is configured to fit into the same MMT (so that the motor ejection pressure pushes it off. If you're not careful in tightly winding/rolling the streamer and packing it carefully, you'll damage the top end of the MMT, and it'll be tough to get the nose cone to stay on. We had a few issues with that, as well as (due to same damage) a few nose cones that didn't eject, resulting in a few lawn darts. I counted those as recovery too. :)

Information

The Firestreak SST (Simple Snap Together) is the first ever snap together model rocket. The Estes rocket designers developed this truly unique snap together assembly technology, making this one of the quickest model rocket kits you will ever build. At just over 10 inches (26 cm), this rocket features an aerodynamically clean design for super high launch heights and is sure to be one of the most reliable rockets you can have in your fleet. If you want to spend more time at the field flying instead of building, then this colorful rocket is exactly what you're looking for. Assembly is so quick that if you are really short on time, you can assemble it at the launch site and be ready to send this speedy mini rocket into the air in less than 15 minutes!

The Firestreak SST is from the E2X (Easy to Assemble) rocket series. No painting or gluing is necessary as the rocket is molded in a bright purple color and also features colorful, easy to apply self-stick decals! This cloud reaching mini brute uses space saving and economical mini engines and can easily reach over 350 feet (107 m) high. A bright orange recovery streamer makes it easy to track and retrieve when launching.
