Custom build and decorate your own 19" rocket with the Explorer X-19 kit. SureFire Rockets has brought a new concept of educational rocket building to educators. You print the instructions and the fin designs from this page. There are currently 4 different fin designs to choose from with more to come! By eliminating many of the high cost associated with producing rockets SureFire Rockets is able to bring you this educational 12 pack for significantly less than any other educational kit on the market. The Explorer X-19 rocket is a Skill Level 1 rocket (ages 8 and up) and flies on standard A, B, and C size engines.

"Solid kit at a fantastic price"
scott
I've used these (and the X-13) kits from SureFire multiple times now as a Merit Badge Counselor for Space Exploration (and just ordered another 24!). White glue and a sharp blade (for cutting fins out of the balsa stock) are just about all you need once you print the instructions. The build instructions are easy enough for younger (age 11) kids to follow on their own or with very little supervision. During one Merit Badge Clinic, we built this and another kit in parallel in about an hour, interleaved with some instruction and discussion, and completed two flights for each Scout (16 total) in the remaining 2 hours, including all the multi-pad launch setup and tear-down. Unlike some other, more expensive ready-to-fly kits that fell apart or couldn't be flown again after their inaugural flight, these work well. The streamer option is great for windy areas or small fields. There is a parachute-based kit (SFR710187) available from HobbyLinc, but unless you know they'll be landing on tarmac or pavement repeatedly, the streamer option really is good enough for most use cases.

"This deal is hard to beat"

I ordered this for the parts, to have a collection of stuff on hand for when I want to build. For the price you get 12 each of 15 BT-50, 4 plastic nose cones, 3x6 3/32 balsa, complete BT20 motor mount, launch lug, plastic streamer (3 different colors), and elastic. BT quality is excellent, very small spiral groove compared to some that I have been working with. The parts are all interchangeable with standard Estes-sized parts. The BT20 in the motor mount is not glassine-wrapped and as such has a rougher surface than the BT50, but still should take a finish, should you choose to repurpose the parts. My only quibble is that the motor mount lacks a thrust block, so you can't built without the engine clip; but I have some, so it's not a problem. And yes, you are limited by the 12 identical nose cones, but I'll build with a few and then see what I want to add to the collection. I couldn't find a better deal on this much stuff. This should keep me of the streets for a while.

"Great Deal, and a Great Deal of Fun!"

I bought these for my Boy Scout Troop and I am really happy with the price and the quality of the kit. The boys are excited and can't wait to get started building. I like this kit because it encourages the boys to use their own creativity in decorating their rocket. I am sure no two will look alike. I have done rockets in the past with other Scouts, and they had a blast. These are all new kids and I am sure they will enjoy it too.

"Great beginner's kit"

This kit is perfect for an introduction to model rocketry. We've used them for years with a middle school model rocketry club.

Markings

This item does not come with decals. The intent is for the student to decorate the rocket with his/her own design.

Comments

Teachers: Have your students build many different shape and size fins to show the dramatic effect aerodynamics have on determining the maximum altitude a rocket will fly.
