Kato #KAT376101. The General Electic P42 locomotive is also known as the "Genesis" locomotive. The P42 is a modern 4200 horsepower passenger locomotive used across the United States and Canada. Amtrak's P42 has replaced the EMD F40PH in revenue service and today they are used throughout the United States. Since their introduction, they have had a number of physical revisions to improve the ease of maintenance and parts replacements, including a bolt-on fiberglass nose panel (replacing the original's solid metal which was difficult to repair or replace) and a new headlight bezel that is more rounded than the previous square versions.

Kato #KAT376390. While originally designed to house a 6000hp engine, technical difficulties resulted in many SD90MAC's being equipped with a 4300hp engine instead, which gave them the designation SD90/43MAC. The locomotives were reliable and effective enough with these engines that though the option to upgrade was given, most locomotives kept the as-shipped 4300hp AC traction engine.

Kato #KAT376571. The EMD F40PH is synonymous with the Amtrak era of American passenger trains. Although it has been retired from Amtrak service, it operated for over 20 years. It continues to be the motive power for commuter railroads all over the United States, including the Chicago Metra. Over 400 F40PH locomotives have been manufactured by EMD in various configurations, with the Chicago Metra owning the largest number of the surviving units and operating them to this day, alongside the newer MPI built MP36PH.

Kato #KAT376582. Designed for use in Amtrak's inner-city lines, the F40PH series of locomotives was ordered as a replacement for the EMD SDP40F type, Amtrak's first series of locomotives built new for them since its inception in 1971. Following updates in federal regulations in 1997, Amtrak's fleet of F40PH locomotives were upgraded with ditch lights (low mounted headlamps that help alert street and walking traffic to the presence of oncoming locomotives at grade crossings), which this particular model replicates.
