Model Rocket Engine Mount Kit

A model rocket engine mount is the portion of the model rocket kit that houses the model rocket engine. This can range from a simple engine hook to a full engine mount kit.

The typical engine mount kit consists of three pieces

In it's most basic form, the model rocket engine mount consists of only a engine hook (no centering rings needed). This type of rocket uses the body tube of the rocket as the engine tube for the model rocket engine, since the diameter of the engine and the diameter of the rocket are the same. This type of design gets the most out of the engine, as there is not the added extra weight of a full engine mount kit.

Construction

The typical steps for construction are:

  • Make a slit in the engine tube about 1/2" from one end to fit the right-angle end of the engine hook (top-right in the picture) into.
  • Insert the engine hook into the slot.
  • Mark the engine tube to indicate where you want the centering rings to be. Usually about 3/4" from each end.
  • Put glue on the bottom-left centering ring line and slide ring into place over the engine hook. Twist centering ring to distribute the glue. Repeat for the top-right centering ring.
  • Optionally put some glue around the engine tube where it meets to centering ring to reinforce the joint.
  • Allow for time to dry.
