"Amazingly fun to build"

My first recommendation is that you buy two if these kits because as soon as you finish one, you will want to build another. This is the perfect kit for someone who has never built a biplane before. Airfix made it easy and simple, yet detailed and visually interesting. You’ll also want to purchase two kits since they come with two options for markings, one a photo reconnaissance plane on the Western Front (this one is mostly a cream color), and the other is a trainer from Scotland (this one has the checkers). The quality of the model was superb, there was almost no flash, the fit was perfect, the surface detail fine and intricate without being overly delicate. With that said, there are a few recommendations I would make to the purchaser of this kit. First off, if you do the checkerboard pattern, you will want to plan way ahead of time. The checkers are decals, but they only have the black portion, so you will need to paint white underneath the checkered area before applying the decals. Also, I would plan to apply the checker decals before attaching the upper wing, the landing gear, and the tail skid. The checker decals go underneath, or below these pieces and it is pretty much impossible to apply the decals under these parts once they are on the plane. The instructions also give details on how to rig the model, which is something I definitely recommend. It looks fine without, but the rigging makes the model so much more interesting, but don’t use thread. Find yourself some black lycra of 40-70 denier, or see if you can find a product that is listed for 1/72 scale models. Overall, this is an amazingly fun kit. It would be perfect for anyone looking to get into WWI kits, and it has all the quality and detail for experienced modelers too!

"Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c 1/72 Scale Kit Review"
Alex Biever
This 1/72 scale kit comes from the legendary British model company called Airfix. The pros for this kit are as follows: You have two paint schemes to choose from. The one I did is from No.12 Squadron Royal Flying Corps, Marieux, France, September 1915. The other one you could do is from Turnhouse Aerodrome, Royal Flying Corps, Edinburgh, Scotland, 1916. The painting of the aircraft is good. The colorful illustrations for the kit are excellent as usual. The building of the aircraft is well done. The biggest pro in my book would be the invention of parts B01 and B02 . These are used to help set the correct angle of the wing struts and boy were they handy! The cons of this kit are as follows: The decals in this kit are surprisingly not well conceived. What I mean is that I originally tried the 1916 version with the checkerboard pattern. When I tried to put the mid-section decal on the aircraft, it didn’t fit at all and it ripped apart. What they should’ve done is split the mid-section decal in half. So I ended up doing the 1915 version instead. There are also extra pieces that included a machine gun and a pair of air to air rockets on the struts that are nowhere to be seen in the instructions. I put the machine gun on the aircraft but not the rockets. What it comes to is this why would they even put those there in the first place if they don’t show them to you in the instructions? In conclusion, I give this kit a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. It’s a great kit to buy and build.
