"Rewarding build"

AMT's El Camino turned out pretty nice for an older kit. I like the separate frame and the engine is nicely detailed, alternator and a/c compressor even have brackets so there not just hanging from the belt. I did however brake the alternator off fitting the chassis to the body, it's an extremely tight fit in the engine compartment. I added spacers to raise the rear end up slightly because it was a real tail dragger out of the box, also you might shorten the rear exhaust tabs so the pipes don't hang so far down. I also had a couple more issues, one my rear bumper didn't fit correctly on the right side and the vent window glass is very thick, you need to really spread the body over the glass to get the chassis all the way up into the body. There are two nice wheel options and reversible redline or white letter tires, I used the red lines and the torque thrust wheels. Be sure to have some quality decal solvent if you plan on using the included hood decals, mine still turned out a little wrinkled. I did build the soap box derby car and painted up the included Chevrolet stand for it.

"COOL OLD SCHOOL KIT"

No complaints here, this kit does have a full frame underneath and is just begging for customization, I completed my offering in box stock form. Zero flash or fitment issues! not bad for an old tool! with all the chrome trim get the foil or silver/chrome paint at the ready, I couldn't see painting in one solid color. the bed builds up nicely with no problems, the faux vinyl top molded in was a nice touch! like other modellers I didn't bother building the included soap box car=don't know why? might need to build a street rod version real soon!

"nice re-boxing of an old kit"

This is a nice re-boxing of an older kit. There is a bit of flash on the parts, but it is not excessive. The kit is an older molding, so it is not up to today's standards for for crisp, ejector pin free parts, but it is still pretty nice. The parts are simple but do build into a nice model. I had no major fit problems. There is plenty of room to add additional detail and you can end up with a very nice El Camino. I did not build the Soap Box Derby car.
