"Average kit for iconic ship"
jsea96
This is a good kit for an iconic ship. You will need good putty and sanding skills to fill dean gaps, especially where neck and hull are joined. There is sufficient room inside hull and front of ship for lighting. Relatively easy build.

"A Classic Kit that makes an easy build for all skill levels."

This is the classic kit from 1966 of the TV version of the Klingon D-7 Cruiser. The mold have gone through several releases and changes but this current molding from AMT bring you back to the original. Molded in THICK light blue plastic, this kit makes a great weekend build or if you want to add lighting, the plastic is thick enough to help keep in the light. A small fret of chromed detail parts are included but I don't think of this as a bonus. Glue doesn't work well with the slick coating and adding it to your ship makes it look a bit toy-like. I'd recommend stripping this silver coating off and painting it yourself so it blends more naturally with your model. An improved decal sheet is included that includes Klingon insignia's and ships portholes. One enhancement that I liked is a new stand with a solid metal bar. It mounts deep enough into your model so it is well balanced and won't tip over as other stands did. If your an old school weekend builder or a gadget guru, this kit is ideal for the beginner or advanced modeler. Hobbylinc's shipping was quick and delivered on time.

"A Fair Kit; A Bit Too Toy-like for Me"

I'm a big fan of the Klingon D7 and have built it in many different scales. This kit is a reproduction of the kit first released in the early 1970s, and its a fair representation. The parts fit together... more-or-less. The biggest drawback of the kit is a very low level of detail. To be fair, the original ship this kit represents was also very low-detail, so in that sense, the kit is very accurate. But you may find after painting and assembling, your Klingon battlecruiser looks more like a toy than a ship in space. For Star Trek (TOS) fans only.

"A fun and interesting kit"

Like other models from the vintage TV show Star Trek, this kit is a re-issue of the original 1960s version of the Klingon Battle Cruiser, or D7 Klingon class in a collectible tin package. AMT re-produced the original colorful box art on the tin package, making the container a nice display piece itself. The model is a fairly simple build at approximately 14 long and one the novice modeler can easily complete. Because it's fairly simple, it also lends itself to many creative upgrades, scratch-built add-ons, lighting, etc. This ship was seen many times in the original Star Trek series and the first ST movie. Unlike the Enterprise with its distinctive off white color, the Klingon ship appeared at times bluish, purplish, matte and glossy. So there's a great deal of creative freedom you can have in re-imagining this classic.

Information

A kit too dangerous to miss. The most iconic enemy ship in Star Trek lore returns. The Klingon Battle Cruiser made its first appearance in the second season of Star Trek The Original Series. The filming model, constructed by AMT, ensured the kit version was the most accurate model of any Star Trek subject. The kit includes the classic ship parts, decal sheet, dome style base and assembly instructions in a collector's edition tin package.
