While the kit will makes a nice hobo addition to your layout. You need to be aware that it is cast just opposite to the picture you see. The walls are gray and the tops are brown. So what ever you see in the picture most of it is switched. I wasn't going to paint this model, but now I will have to to make it look better. Had I know about the color switch I probably would't have purchased it.

"Nice shacks, Bad picture"

Although the pictures are a incorrect as far as the color of the molded pieces, if you wanted any kind of detail you would have to paint anyway. the pieces have signs and wood planks molded into them and would need a bit of paint for them to show, it would have been nice to not have to paint every piece but the kits do go together pretty easily. Also the smaller shacks have no floor. If you don't mind more painting the kit is still very usable for your lay out.
