This kit is a re-re-release of the AMT USS Reliant from 1995. For a lark, I decided to assemble both the 2017 and 1995 versions side-by-side, and I was surprised at how much detail has been REMOVED from the 2017 version. For example, the '95 kit had ridges and portholes along the Reliant's saucer and flank; these things have been sanded away for a smooth, detail-less hull. Why? I assume to encourage you to buy the separate companion decal set. The decals have every deckplate and the portholes. Make no mistake: if you want to recreate the Reliant pictured on the box, you have to buy both the kit and decals. That all said, Reliant is a beautiful ship and this is a solid Trek kit.
