Multi-Stage Transport Rocket/Mars Probe Returns!

Lindberg's re-release of this classic kit from the 1950's delighted fans of what if spacecraft proposals from the early atomic age. The Mars Satellite top-stage is included in this release. However, parts are also included to build the manned, winged re-entry version (the same version depicted in the Space Base and Satellite Explorer set). Note that the satellite parts are NOT included with the Space Base kit. Inclusion of the optional parts is not even mentioned on the box, so it is like a free bonus! The parts have a lot of rivet detail typical of kits of the era. This detailing is reasonably fine and should be easy to sand off for those modelers wishing to do so, or it can be left as-is to retain the visual feel of the original release. Parts fit is not bad considering the age of the molds and the kit is suitable for any modeler who has a little experience with glue-together kits. There is a sprue of clear parts (most useful for depicting the clear windows on the winged, manned version). This plastic has a slightly green tint to it, resembling auto glass. Interestingly, the bottoms of the various stages with the molded-in engines are also included on this sprue, so the builder may wish to paint these parts. However, this opens up some interesting possibilities for those wishing to add LED lighting to these transparent engine nozzles. In summary, the retro-cool design, bonus-parts, and interesting decals should please most sci-fi/space modelers, especially at this price.
