Spotlight Review

"modestly improved M103"
The M103A2 was an upgraded verision with a diesel engine used exclusively by the marines. This is the second release of the M103 in the Black Label series. A number of flaws were noted in the previous release. Dragon has corrected the upper profile on the forward section of the top turret as well as providing a a few clear parts. The other dimensional and profile issues that exist with the hull and turret have not been corrected. The barrel that is too short and incorrectly styled sprockets were not corrected either. Aftermarket metal barrels are available. The engine deck is more accurate this time around but the mod B style engine grill will require correction. DEF models has a M48 grill that is fairly close to that on the A2. The A2 also had a different style of track than the A1. It is very unfortunate that Dragon did not do more to correct this kit. Expert modelers may be utterly disapointed but intermediate and novice builders will still find this to be a very enjoyable build. The completed kit does build up nicely. In spite of it's many flaws it still looks the part.

"Easy to build and looks like an M103A2"
This kit has good detail without resorting to dozens of small parts. There are some issues with the front of the hull and gun length, but overall this looks like an M103A2. I thought it was an enjoyable build and not a tedious hope to finish someday build. The tracks are very well molded in Deformable Styrene (DS); this means you can glue them together with regular model cement.
