Not many parts but still okay for a decent 1963 Impala build

This kit does not come with many parts and you will need to highlight with paint to make the details standout. This kit does not come with a radiator, firewall or battery for the engine compartment. This is also the first kit I built in which the rear taillights are part of the plastic body mold and not separate red clear plastic. The chassis is one piece so you will need to paint the raised pieces to make it intricate (exhaust, pipes...etc.). You will save time gluing but more time painting to make the model seem intricate. The kit also comes with a lot of accessory parts (prize trophy, TV set, tools.etc.) great for dioramas but AMT could have used this effort toward the car model instead. I had trouble fitting the front end to the drivers side fender. The front wheels are not connected with a steel rod like the rears but with an independent plastic stem/hub. You may want to connect the front wheels to the chassis before gluing the front face of the wheels together so you get less freeplay or negative camber when the model is completed.
Nice detail. However...!

This promo style kit was originally tooled in 1963. Detail is still crisp for the most part. The biggest drawbacks are the molded in taillights and integral chrome headlights. Work will be needed to make them presentable for a stock version. As was a common practice at the time, this hardtop kit contains a convertible interior, serving a dual purpose, since the bolsters are partially concealed under the hardtop. A convertible boot is supplied. No sun visors. The chassis is promo style with the drive train, exhaust and suspension components molded in. The engine is a separate assembly. The hood opens. There are a lot of drastic custom parts since this was intended to be an 'Advanced Custom Kit', thus making the taillights/headlights issue a moot point. The factory stock parts count is low, so assembly of that version is relatively smooth. A good kit, all things considered.

This is a retro style promo model kit which means it is made with older tooling that sometimes give you the fits when trying to put it together. It also means there are a lot of parts for customizing to make your model unique. I wonder what is the back story of including a animal figurine with these old kits? This one has a rabbit. The fit for the front grill will take a lot of tweaking to get it to fit correctly. The hood also needs some adjustment too. Make sure to trim out the hinge holes before painting. The interior is a tub style that has held up over time and the chassis is one piece. I personally like these old retro kits because they are easy to modify. The box artwork is cool and it comes with an incredible new decal sheet. There are decals for the interior, dash, and exterior emblems.
Love the '63 409
My kit needed a lot of work plus I made it into a convertible. The wheel openings were off on the driver side, the rear bumper needed a lot of filing and sanding to fit evenly and there are some weird body lines to sand off. Take your time and pre fit the parts before you glue and don't skip a step when doing the front wheels and axles because it is hard to get in there after your further along as I found out (I wanted to put them on near the end of the build). I sure wish they would redo the taillights and not mold them into the body. No mirrors at all in my kit so I had to raid another kit. All this because it's one of my favorite Chevy's :)
I think I'm going to try to 3d print a continental kit and some fender skirts.
Easy build

Pretty nice reissue of and old kit. This was the first reissue and I didn't know what to expect. Not a lot of detail on the underside or engine compartment, but otherwise a nice kit. The interior is nicely detailed, as is the body. Definitely a nice kit for a beginner. There was a nice treat with all the extras to build it in different forms. Lots of extras so your imagination can go where it wants.

I just opened the box and this is what up. The rear taillights are part of the main body and have to be hand painted. Also the front axle is unique making a wheel change harder than if it was a standard steel axle like on the rear. Just a strange setup. This would make a pretty good custom version because it comes with many extra custom parts. All the pieces seemed fit with little flash.

Easy kit to build but not a lot of engine or suspension details. Lots of custom accessories and diorama pieces. Would have been nice to see the effort for that put into details on the actual kit. Still a fun kit. A little scraping and filing will be needed for proper fit on some parts. Have fun!
Super sport
Not a bad kit the build was straight forward I like the ss wheels and white wall tires that's the look I went for the only downfall were the decals when I tried to take them off the paper they just fell apart but nice kit overall.
Good kit for beginners
