I acquired one of the Bachmann On30 coaches a number of years ago when I was given the, now out of production, Wonderland Express set. The coach included I was quite fond of. For being a dominantly made of plastic it is fairly well detailed. The underside of the coach has detailed truss rods, although made from plastic rather than wire. I found that the truss rods were somewhat fragile and broke/snapped easily if not handled carefully. There is a cast-on air tank for the implied air brakes.
The trucks of the car I was fairly impressed with. Their level of detail is excellent and with a little paint and weathering could easily look quite real. The truck side frames are mad from cast metal and held together to a plastic frame with screws. The trucks are held in place via screws that are screwed into pins from the top of the truck through the floor of the car body.
The interior includes seating for passengers as well as a stove in one end. The seats and the floor are cast together as one solid piece. Disassembling the passenger car can be difficult because of the interior lighting system. The wires leading from the trucks to the lighting fixture ties up ans snags quite a bit when trying to dismantle the car. I don't particularly like the light system in the car, so I removed the ones in my passenger cars.
Overall these are good out of the box cars, but for a serious modeler they are begging to be super detailed and modified per their preference.
The one thing that I am not fond of is the price tag. It's nearly $40 retail, and personally I would say a fairer price wouldn't be more than $25. Other than that I would say that the Bahcmann passenger cars are worth the investment, especially when bought at a good deal.
