Nothing else compares
I've used it in all the normal ways but my favorite applications is for masking aircraft canopies. Lay a piece a little larger than the canopy window. Burnish it down well with Tamiya medium round pointed cotton buds. Trim with a NEW hobby blade or scalpel as close to the canopy framework as possible. After painting use a round toothpick sanded to a chisel point to gently lift a corner or edge and peel off with tweezers. If paint is heavy (like many clear coats) it may be necessary to trim next to the framework with a hobby blade or scalpel before trying to remove to avoid lifting paint. Use several overlapping strips on bubble canopies. It is only .0005 thick so handle with care and practice, practice, practice. You will never go back to masking canopies with anything else. Residual sticky can be removed with WD40 or Goo Gone on a cotton bud followed by vinegar & water solution (ratio isn't critical) and soft cloth for cleaning glasses.
Best way to highlight molded-in chrome detail
I've been out of modeling for over 20 years; and just gotten back into it. This stuff was the best way to pick out molded-in chrome back then, and it's still best now. It beats trying to paint it, hands-down. It looks much better, to boot. Just be sure you use a NEW, SHARP X-Acto blade to trim it.... it's quite possible to rip it. Once it's on, burnish it down carefully, and now your chrome looks like the real thing. An outstanding modeling product.
Bare Metal Foil Ultra Brite
I have used Bare Metal Foil Ultra Brite for quite a while now, and when it recently became difficult to find, I tried EZ Chrome. Needless to say, that product is second to Bare Metal Foil Ultra Brite, which is still the best because it is so thin, it just conforms to details much better.
every bulider needs this
cant say enough about ultra chrome foil. makes any model look amazing. but a big fyi TAKE YOUR TIME! slower you go and more care giving to the piece the better the outcome. try come small test parts before you commit to your real model but even if you do goof up it comes off pretty easy
first time user.
this will be the first time i have used this. after reading review's it seem's to have a lot of fan's. i expect that i will have to use trail and error to get it down pat. but it can't be any harder than trying to paint the trim on a model by hand.
Love this BMF
First time ordering it, first time using it. If you take your time this stuff is great. Do not expect to lay it down quickly. Prep work is the key to a good looking job. Making sure the area is clean n smooth is paramount.
With a little care it looks great
I have used metal foil for small parts / rocker panels and finally decided to do a whole car. I am very impressed with finished product. Do take care of overlap locations when applying as edges will show through.
Burnishes and stays in place. Cuts easily with fresh #11 blade.
Bare Metal Chrome Foil looks fairly realistic when applied to chrome trim. It is extremely thin, burnishes easily and stays in place. Cuts easily using light pressure with a fresh #11 blade.
IS THIS FOR REAL?
i was really able to bring my project to life with this foil. A little patience and take your time and it's better than paint. It also peals off if you don't do it quite correctly any way!
Problems with Ultra Bright Foil
The Bare Metal Foil is an excellent product, but it curls easily and has very low adhesion. I use the product for compound surfaces, but prefer BMF1 Chrome foil for most jobs.
Bare metal foil
I was disappointed this time. It came packed in brown paper which caused large creases all through the sheet. I can still use it just not for what I intended to use it for.
Needed staple.
Whether using BMF for window trim or masking,it should always be available in your supplies. So many uses. Looks great and easy to use with a little patience.
Kinda disapointed
This product didn't measure up to BMF high quality, it cracked & split easily with weak glue, I'll never use anything but the standard chrome foil...
foil
works very well. I received it fast and went right to work. It stuck just like it should and really increased the visual appeal of my model.
Just like chrome
I have used BMF for years & love it. It gives my models a much more realistic look. Easy to put on. There really are no cons.
bmf 1
There is nothing that compares to Bare Metal Foil, it is THE finishing touch for your model kit, I wouldnt build without it.
Great product
As with all Bare Metal Foil products this can be challenging at first but each time you use it it will get easier.
Must to have for car modeling
Very good quality adhesive foil. Takes a little bit of practice and patience. Must to have for car modeling.
Real Chrome
Easy to use great for all models cars. Love the realistic look!! Will be buying more for sure!
Very Good Results
If you take your time in applying the foil the results are well worth the effort. Work slowly
Must have
If you take to your time, it works well. Try use a toothpick, q-tip, and hobby knife.
Awesome product
This product looks like the real deal. It is easy to use and I highly recommend it.
Great for canopy mask
Great to use as a mask for plane canopies as well as chrome for model car trim.
