"1/48 1919 Chia Typ Seaplane Review"
Alex Biever
This 1/48 scale kit comes from a Hong Kong model company called Bronco Models. I believe this is only the second kit I’ve built from this company with the only other one being the Blohm & Voss BV P178. The pros for this kit are as follows: You have three paint schemes to choose from and the one I did is in the navy blue position. The two other paint schemes included are in a newly built position and the painted navy emblem position. The building process was very simple and enjoyable at the same time. I like how they use giant holes to help you install the sides and top of the fuselage to the bottom of the aircraft. The instructions are very well detailed and easy to understand. The views on how to paint the aircraft are excellent in my opinion. The cons for this aircraft are as follows: There seems to be no decals or a photoetched piece for the instrument panels for some reason. What you get is a blank instrument panel pieces with circles attached to them. I find that the tail decals to be quite brittle and kind of hard to get them off the paper. So I had to apply some touch-up to fix them. If you want to do the painted navy emblem position, they do provide you with decals of the large and small roundels the Chinese used at the time. They do show you where to place the smaller roundels but for some reason, don’t do the same with the larger roundels. Also the clear blue paint is nowhere to be shown in the instructions. In conclusion, I give this kit a rating of 4 stars out of 5. Bronco Models of you’re reading this; it is a better kit than the Blohm & Voss BV P178 aircraft I’ve built from you years ago. But it still has some flaws that need to be addressed and if you do any of the suggestions I’ve mentioned earlier. I promise that you’ll have a brighter future ahead of you in the years to come.
