This is a unique effort by Dumas, a long time maker of flying models. The Waco CG-4A was critical to the success of the Normandy landings and yet it remains almost unknown to all but a few Americans. I actually bought this kit sometime ago but it sat until an episode of Expedition Unknown inspired me to finally build it. The fuselage is of traditional stick and tissue construction with the curved cockpit parts being die-cut. The wing ribs, rudder and stabilizer tips are also cut as well. This is a good model to learn the basics of model airplane construction, since there are very few curves and the fuselage has a square cross section. It is pretty close to scale but the tail surfaces are slightly enlarged for better flying characteristics. I flattened the dihedral a bit to make it little more scale and I installed a Spektrum r/c micro receiver and servos for control. A light breeze and a moderate slope kept her aloft for almost 10 minutes. You can make her into a fine static display piece as well. During my quest to learn about the CG-4A it turns out there was a powered variant that had two Ranger 6 cylinder engines under the wings so maybe there is another Waco to be brought out of obscurity.
