This is a treasure. Although the initial launch of Vanguard reached an altitude of about 4 feet, a successful lift off was achieved on March 17, 1958. This was the first success of a burgeoning civilian space program, which would soon grow into NASA some three months later.
This kit is a reissue, and the molding is nearly pristine. Rocket sections fit accurately, and seams are well matched. The rocket engine assemblies take some care and patience, but this is a must-have for space program fans.
The kit's release times nicely with the reissue of the re-issue of Hawk's kit of the Vanguard satellite prototype.
This is Glencoe’s reissue of the 1958 Adams Action Models Vanguard rocket and launch pad. The old molds have stood up well, with little or no flash noted, fit of parts is very good. The decal sheet is well printed and gives you five different options. There is a very nice color print showing individual Vanguard rockets and their history.
Finally the box art is very evocative of models sold in the late 1950’s. I built this model as a kid and now at age 66 have built it again. It was like finding a long lost friend again. This is a good kit, highly recommended.
