This version of the very famous "Huey" helicopter, extensively used by the American Army in the long Vietnam War, and exported world-wide, was built for the American Air Force. The AAF was looking for a high performance aircraft for controlling and supporting strategic missile sites in the USA, although a few were used in Vietnam to support operations of the Special Forces.
