FW-189 A-1

This 1/72 scale kit is from a familiar Italian model company called Italeri! In my opinion, it ranks alongside Revell and Airfix as the best model companies in the business. The pros of this kit are as follows: You have four paint schemes to choose from and the one I’ve chosen is Fw 189 A-1, Hungarian Air Force, 3/1 Squadron. The other three paint schemes you could do are Fw 189 A-2, Heeres-Aufklärungsgruppe (Army Reconnaissance Group in German) 32, Finland, 1943 which is on the cover on the box, Fw 189 A-2 Heeres-Aufklärungsgruppe 31, and Fw 189 A-1 Heeres-Aufklärungsgruppe 32, Artemovsk, Ukraine, Summer 1942. The illustrations for the painting and placing decals are in color with four views of the aircraft which is a big plus in my opinion. The painting experience is solid and I had no issues with the decals whatsoever. The cons of this kit are as follows: According to the suggested colors page, it says you’ll need Schwarzgrau RLM 70 (Black gray in German) and Dunkelgrau RLM 71 (Dark gray in German). It turns out; they’re the wrong colors as you’ll actually need Schwarzgrun RLN 70 (Black green in German) and Dunkelgrun RLM 71 (Dark green in German). I couldn’t find where you use the Metal Gloss Silver paint anywhere in the instructions so I didn’t bother using that paint. The clear plastic pieces are either too big or too small for this kit as they don’t exactly fit well. There are also some cracks in the standard pieces that I had to use spackle in a tube to fill them. For these reasons I give this kit a rating of 4 stars out of 5. It’s not a bad kit in general but there are some glitches that you might encounter when making this plane so I just want to give you a heads up as they say.
