1/90 San Francisco II

This is the Latina 1:90 Scale San Francisco II Spanish Galeon S. XVI kit. The most fearsome ships of the Spanish Armada were her galleons, sailing ships that first appeared in the middle of the 16th century and which were, for a hundred and fifty years, the warships par excellence. The San Francisco II was one of the most outstanding of its age.

"Poor Artesania Support"
not2old2start
Fantastic model, fun to build - Missing parts Artesania wanted to charge me for the missing parts and the shipping, then they said that the parts were being shipped two months and still no parts from Artesania. I contacted HOBBYLINC and they came through with the parts plus, FANTASTIC company to deal with. I will not buy another Artesania model. Their plans were okay, directions had several errors. I would not try this or recommend this model to someone who is just starting out.

"FANTASTIC SHIP"
iltcruz (Leesburg, FL,)
This was a very detailed ship and very hard to build, But i loved doing it. It displays beautifully and is very impressive, The only thing I had a hard time with is there was no stand with the kit. I built my own stand from a small piece of plywood. This ship took me almost 4 months to build and i enjoyed every minute of it. Very challenging. My wife said it kept me out of her hair the whole time and she loved the displayed finished model. I think she was a little surprised i had the patients to do this ship. My first one was the small Bounty.

"Lots of satisfaction in this build"

My name is Ray and I'm 67 years old, this is my 7th build. This was a fun build for me. It had some moments of distress and some of joy (more joy than distress) It was a challenge for me and that's what makes a good model. I believe this was my best build yet. All and all the kit and the instructions were fairly good.' Could have used more rigging line. (had to order more) The scale was good, except for the stairs and the life boat. I made my own stairs but had to use the life boat. There were lots of measurements off the plans and the picture it's self. Which I enjoyed doing, makes it feel more like real boat building. If I had to rate this kit I would give it a B+. I would recommend this kit for those who like a challenge and problem solving.

"So Far So Good"

Just started the model and so far so good. I have done 7 ships from this company and I think, if you have built a few wooden ships, they are the best. The instructions are not made for a beginner, keep that in mind when buying. The kit contents are in excellent condition and are of high quality. If you are interested I am building this model for a friend who has asked me to keep a log of it progress, I have a blog set up where you can check the build out. sanfranciscowoodenshipbuild.blogspot.com come and check it out.

Comments

  • Painting is not required, but a good choice for enamel model paint in a large variety of colors would be the Humbrol line found under vendor prefix ARXR.
  • This is an intricate model with many pieces and much finish work required, previous modeling experience is helpful.
