The EMD GP38-2 was one of the most popular locomotives ever built. These reliable, non-turbocharged 2,000-horsepower units are ideal for all kinds of road and switching chores. EMD Produced well over 2,000 units for use in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. This version, with an 88" nose, was produced beginning in 1977.
PROTO N Series locos feature a heavy, DCC-friendly spilt-frame mechanism, five-pole motor with dual flywheels, directional LED headlights, applied details, all-wheel drive and electrical pickup and AccuMate(R) knuckle couplers. 2006 performance upgrades include a DCC-friendly frame and PC board, and RP-25 contour wheels that allow operation on any brand of Code 55 track.
