"Perfect Fit"

I don't have a lot of room left on my layout, but this was a perfect fit! Model Power kits have the additional advantage of including accessories that aren't disclosed in the kit description. This kit has the watering station and some other accessories that I'm not sure about yet. (I'm still pretty new to n scale railroading and steam engines are new to me!) This kit is easy to build. (Even though the packaging had broken a part, NOT Hobbylinc's fault, the part was sealed, half in and half out of the box. Thankfully, building n scale models means you are dealing with tiny parts in the first place so nearly everything is easily repairable!) I did not use the included base. (Except for initial parts alignment.) I had considered purchasing a built-up water tower, but none of them seemed to really fit my layout's era and I would have spent a fair amount of time weathering them. Buying this kit, even though it needed painting, allowed me to decorate it easily, (parts are much easier to paint BEFORE they're installed.) All in all a good kit. Completed kit looks great on the layout.

"Nice water tower with land based spout"

This is a great model the lends itself to plastic due to its round shape. I painted the pieces first because plastic always looks like plastic. The was a part pictured in the instruction picture that didn't seem to be included, a small pipe that runs parallel to the big center pipe, but a straight piece of wire did fine. You'd never notice if it were left off, but the little holes help you aline the tank sections. The only difficult piece to install was the fence around the base of the tank. It has to be bent and clipped in place as it winds around, finally being retained in the same hole the first post clipped in. I had to practice a couple times and gently shave the last pin to fit. I daubed liquid plastic cement on sparingly at each pin location after the fence was installed. The plastic fence had to be bent so much that it started to turn white in places, but that was covered with a brown marking pen. All in all, a satisfying addition to my layout. The spout for filling the tenders is remote from the tank, so the tank can be places on a rise in the terrain for better water pressure and the spout mounted track side. Other goodies came in the box. I used a double signal bridge at the entrance of one of my tunnels. Haven't decided where to put the outhouse yet--probably near the engine shed. There's other railroad junk that adds so to realism, stacks of ties, spare wheel assemblies and electric poles.
