"Quality Balsa with Common Flaws"

Through this product, as usual, Midwest offers a reliable option for balsa sheeting. My particular experience using the 1/8x6x36 sheet was for cutting wing ribs for a model airplane wing, and for sheeting across the top of the ribs along the wing leading edge. The wood is of moderately good weight for this task, around 6-8 lbs/cubic foot. Ideally, it would be in the 4-6 lbs/cubic foot range, but that cannot be expected in this price range. In general, the wood worked very well for my required task. In particular, it cut well with a laser cutter. It should be noted that the 6 inch width boards are simply composites of two 3 inch boards glued together edge-to-edge. I found that this was fine when cutting wing ribs, but if I tried to bend the wood for the leading edge of the plane, the place the boards were joined oftentimes gave way. Therefore, care is required to make sure the board doesn't break. If you are interested in purchasing this item, consider whether a smaller width (4 or 3) will suffice in order to avoid potential failure points at the join location if you are bending the wood. I would recommend this product if you have reasonable expectations. It is very good quality for the price, and the drawbacks are common for most balsa you could find elsewhere. I will likely order again soon.
