This was the second of the 1/48th 4-engine bombers made by Monogram and I believe it is the best.
The B-17G was the first in the series and is a wonderful kit, but this model is even better, in my opinion, and I think the difference is that Monogram learned perhaps how to engineer making such a large model from the B-17G kit and applied the lessons to this one. The plane is molded in dull aluminum-colored plastic, appropriate for a late-war no-camouflage paint scheme, as well as parts in black plastic as appropriate (propellers, machine guns, etc.) There are also lots of clear parts, windows and turrets, and they are all clear and sharp and thin enough to be truly transparent and show interior detail. The fuselage is large enough to accommodate a very detailed interior, which is well-displayed through all the clear parts.
I liked this kit so much that I made a second one, modified to be a Vultee Privateer (PB4Y) which was an elongated B-24J with a single tail more like a B-29 that the Navy used for maritime patrol and Air-Sea rescue.
