Facts Straight axles = greater speed! In pinewood racing, finishers are often separated by fractions of an inch. Although many factors affect car perfor- mance, precision axles are key to reaching the winner's circle. The nails used are not precision axles. Although they may look straight, many nail-axles have a slight bend, are slightly out of round, and the nail head may not be square to the axle shaft. To convert a nail to a precision axle, these natural deficiencies must be addressed.
