On December 20, 1967, the United Aircraft TurboTrain reached a record-shattering 170.8mph on the Pennsylvania Railroad in New Jersey. To this day, this is still the fastest speed ever achieved by a production train in North America.
Rapido Trains Inc. is proud to preset the first-ever accurate model of this unique train in any scale. Each train features one Intermediate Car and two Power Dome Car locomotives. For speed and reliability, both engines are powered, and both have sound decoders (sounds include turbines, bell, doors, station announcements and the unit's distinctive horns, all taken from prototype recordings) and speakers. More Intermediate Cars are available to make a longer train. Several different Coach, Caf and Club cars are available, depending on the choice of paint scheme. The TurboTrain operates with or without sound on both DC and DCC.
The TurboTrain comes with numerous factory-applied detail parts; working full-width diaphragms, full interior lighting, constant directional headlights and operating Gyralites, a decal sheet with additional logos and car numbers, a 48-page, full-color book on the history of the TurboTrain featuring dozens of never-before-published photographs and a hand-held controller for operating the train sounds in DC.
The TurboTrain features interior detail that has rarely been attempted in HO Scale including padded armrests, faucets in the bathroom sinks, gauges in the engineman's cab, and a microwave behind the counter in the caf car. The models are fully prototype-specific, with three different Power Dome Car designs represented and five Intermediate Car styles available. Minimum radius is 18" without diaphragms, 24" with diaphragms.
VIA Rail Canada (and VIA-CN before it became an independent crown corporation) only ran its Turbos in 9-car trains. A complete 9-car train, requires one each #200006, #200601, #200602, #200603 and #200604, all sold separately, and car numbers are accurate for the 9-car Turbo trainset known as VIA-2.
Decals are provided for the red CN logos used on the nose until 1978 and the Montreal 1976 Olympics logo used in 1976. Like the prototypes, the Power Cars of this set differ; #151 (PDC-27) is a TurboCoach, while #126 (PDC-26) is equipped as a TurboClub.
