Don't bother with this one
Probably one of the worst kits I've ever encountered. That said, when I make a model I am pretty picky about fit and smooth seams. I'm not adverse to doing some work to make a rough kit into something I'm happy with, but this one got the best of me! It is a fairly simple kit, and should be pretty easy for a kid to put together. The molds are very old, I think made in the '60's, and the wear and tear over the years has taken it's toll. He's why I don't recommend this kit. The hull does not fit well with the deck. I got them together, but it took quite a bit of finesse. The torpedo tubes don't quite fit together, and that means there is a lot of seam work. I'm talking about a LOT of seam work! And it's not easy because they have reinforcement bands that need seam work too. If you really want to build this kit, you may be better off cutting apart the tubes and rebuilding them using new material and parts from the kit tubes. The railing around the guns doesn't come close to fitting. It's supposed to wrap most of the way around the gun area, but it's cast in two pieces, and the pieces are not close to mating. Mine were about 1/8 off, which is a lot at this scale. There are some other problems with accuracy, and fit in other areas that I could live with or fix. But it got to the point of this is no longer fun so it went in the scrap bin. Time to retire that kit, Revell!
very few parts
Specifics. guns: 2 twin fifty's 1 37mm. men: 1 gunner 1 commander 1observor 1 pilot. Size: length: 13 1/2 width: 3 1/2 height: 2 3/4 (in all) Experience building it: This was my first model and it was pretty easy (I think) it had very few peace's and the instructions were kind Ove hard to fallow in my case. Pros: easy and inexpensive & very few parts. comes with a stand. Hull is all one peace. Cons. antenna is thin and breaks real easy :( the instructions don't say what color to paint it ( if they do, I didn't see it) there is lots of flash( extra plastic) and so it takes lots of sanding which I didn't do. notes: remember to scrape away the paint before gluing the men! because I didn't and some have already fallen of. This would be a great model for a rookie that wants to learn how to glue/paint/sand so on and so forth, I guess because it so inexpensive. the spot light is kind of out in the middle of no were and it snapped at the bottom, so I glued it In the driver station to the wall to the right of the steering wheel, when you get the kit you'll see what I'm talking about. have fun with your kit! or try : )
Not a bad boat
Easy enough to fancy up with some paint and thread and fairly straight forward to assemble. All though I did find parts of the instructions vague. Also the deck was some what ill fitting on the hull. I did enjoy building the kit and putting on all the little extras. I found it best to build up the deck before attaching it to the hull because of some the small parts on the deck and the hull possibly breaking during construction. But in the end the results were most acceptable and all and all not a bad boat.
Good model for JFK's ship
Excellent model. Any skill level could probably handle this model. The model is a convenient size for displaying, not small and not overbearingly large. An interesting issue about the model is that the directions say to paint the model gray, however, as you'll notice on the box and picture, the model is gray on the waterline and olive drab above it. I did the green. Turned out very nice. I suppose the choice would be up to you. Good model overall. It comes with 3 figures, including a Lt. JFK.
Easy model, looks great, a little fitting problem
When fully built, this 1/72 scale model looks quite big and impressive. Assembly is quite easy, although there are some fit issues. For instance, the deck skews slightly to the left despite fitting into the guide holes. This is pretty minor though and unless you look closely it's not that noticeable. This model was very enjoyable to make and when finished looks great.
Needs Major Trimming
This kit was a pretty easy build, that looks pretty decent at the end. However, there was a TON of trimming required to clean up the pieces. Not only that, the plastic seemed to be very brittle. Several pieces were already broken on the sprue. It's not a horrible kit, especially for the price, but to look good, it will need extensive trimming.
Decent kit, could be better or worse
Nice detail on the kit, the included figures are nice and the details on the weapons are good. As others have said, the hull and some pieces were warped and for a novice builder like myself it was a little difficult but also taught me a lot on how to putty seems etc. I'd recommend the kit for sure, just not someone's very first kit.
Fun and fairly easy
Fitment was OK. Can’t be built fairly quickly. I do like that there are two different options to build. I wish there was a way to see all the work on the interior that you do. It’s a shame to do all the hard work on the interior and then not be able to see it. Other than that all around a fun and fairly easy build.
PT 109 build
My first build in 55 years. Kit was a pleasant experience . Some flash but not too bad.Torpedos needed a great deal of sanding but, that's part of model making.Left off the big decals on the hull. Can't expect them to have been used on a combat vessel. No real issue of difficulty.
decent / fun kit
a fun kit to build out of the box for a novice. Brittle plastic and some clean up required. Have built several ovr the years With the 1/35 version out It is not the best PT available ,but it has lots of potentialfor customizing just as the real boats were.
Another 72nd scale kit (5th).

This was a great build, I even painted pretty much everything as suggested by their paint guide. All the parts fit well, there was sufficient detail and none of the parts were to small. A fantastic kit in my opinion. Enjoyed immensely.
kit was decent not outstanding
This was my first attempt at a pt boat. They need to retire the mould of the hull and deck, they fit poorly and were warped, meaning that when you assembled it it looked terrible. The rest of the parts fit ok.
Retire it
Time to retire the old classic. My model had enough flash to build a second PT-109. The deck was warped. And, you need a lot of putty to fill the gaps.
amazing
it was a great kit. I ended up getting another for my fleet of ships. I might get one more
PT-109
ALL PARTS FIT WELL,NICELY DETAILED,NICE DECALS,WITH CREW THAT CAN BE PAINTED AND DETAILED.
Great buy
One of the easiest models that i've completed. Great for beginners!
