1/48 F-14D Super Tomcat

Supersonic standard fighter bomber of the US Navy.

The F-14 is the backbone of the US Navy air defences and is one of the latest carrier-borne weapons systems. The F-14D resulted from the F-14A modernization program. This aircraft had proved to be inadequate, so back in 1973 it was decided to equip an F-14 with different engines. The final outcome of the experience gained was the F-14D with the GE F- 110-GE-400 engines, upgraded electronics, a new airborne radar system and modifications to the aerodynamics. Production of the Grumman F-14D began in March 1990 and in addition to new-build machines included the conversion of some existing F-14As with very few flying hours. In addition to the Sidewinder and the Sparrow, the F-14D can also use the AIM-54C Phoenix as a weapon. In addition, it can however still be equipped with the AIM-120 AMRAAM and the AGM-78 Standard ARM. Max. speed: Mach 2.34 (2,486 km/h) at 12,190 m.
