"The original A-6E"
blawhorne
the original A-6E Intruder. This kit has one of the best displays of ordinance that I've ever seen. The perfect big kit for the intermediate modeler.

"Good model, but a bit tricky to put together."
irish_cali_man
This was a alright model to put together. There were quite a few fit issues with this model...chief among them is not being able to get either end to stay put: you can either get the forward fuselage together or the tail section, but not both at the same time. To overcome this, I had to use a rubber band to hold the forward fuselage together while I worked on the tail. The other issue I ran into was the refueling probe. Since it sits on one half of the fuselage, it can be a bit tricky to work with depending on what you are doing. It is however a blessing and a curse in that it offers its self as a stand while working on the underside of the model but it can also snap off. The other issue are the Mk 82 Snake Eye bombs. The bomb holders are a bit too big for the bombs; they just kind of sit in the center of the racks. Also, the horizontal stabilizer on the right side as you are looking at it from the front will not stay put while the glue is setting so you will need to support it with something. I also recommend that you drill a small hole for the pitot tube as it will just snap off if you just glue it in. If you do the TRAM version, the sensor/camera under the nose will have gaps, so make sure to fill those in. Also make sure you use something to keep the bomb racks up right, otherwise they will fall over. This is all that I can recall from me doing mine. I am not sure if these issues are the same for all A-6Es by Revell...and I hope they aren't...but I hope you find this information useful. if its any consolation, I am going to be building another one, only because I was not happy with the first one.

"Good and fun build"

This is very good model with nice detail, very easy to build, the only downfall is raised panel lines and amount of flash that the model had, however for the amount of flash it had parts fit rather well, I had minimal amount of sanding and filling to do. Instruction sheet can be a bit confusing so go through it few times, you can choose out of 2 variants of the plane, the difference will be in armament and whether you will have a laser guidance pod under the nose cone, and which carrier it was biased on so read through and make a choice. Decals pretty good but a bit on the thick side but with some time and care go on really well. So overall for the price it got plenty of quality.

"Good model for the price"

I got this model as a gift several months back and in looking through the instructions, inspecting and inventorying the pieces in the kit I noticed that this model will let you build several versions of the A-6 (I intend to build an A-6E TRAM). The only aftermarket parts I plan on using in the build of this kit is different seats and a different decal sheet for VA-75 Sunday Punchers

Markings

  • One decal sheet with markings for 2 versions
  • 1) US Navy A-6E Attack Bomber, VA85 Black Falcons, USS Forrestal, 1978
  • 2) US Navy A-6E Attack Bomber, VA35 Panthers, USS Nimitz
