This kit is basically for model builders with some experience in ship models with small parts and lots of detailing. As one with ship models of this sort under my belt many years ago, it brought back many good memories of the exact type of detailing the model. I would recommend that painting all of the parts be done prior to construction as many are fragile and will break if they are painted later on in building the model. Rigging is a challenge so be prepared for lots of time to accomplish the step. By following the instructions one should not have any trouble as the rigging is shown in steps with the end result looking complex which on real ships it is complex for a very good reason. After the rigging is done the sails should be attached with that as one of the last steps. Overall I would recommend the kit to modelers over 12.
