 | M3 Lee/Grant in Action Other items from Squadron/Signal Publications When the WWII began, the United States had one of the smallest, most obsolete armored forces in the world, due to budget constraints and outdated military doctrines. The M2 and M2A1 were designed and tested but never used. The M3 was produced as an interim tank until a 75MM turret could be developed.
