Facts The DeHavilland Mosquito was designed in 1939 as part of an attempt to build a bomber that could outrun modern-day fighters. Wood was used in the construction of the Mosquito in an effort to save precious aluminum. After successful tests that clocked the Mosquito at 630kmh the orders for the speedy craft began to pour in. During the production of the different versions of the craft, machine guns were added to the nose and bomb capacity was refined. The Mosquito was an effective and much used craft during WWII.
