"Pretty good color match. I recommend using a clear coat also"
Shane S. (Dallas, Tx)
I ordered this, along with most of the other US Navy WWII colors in enamel form. They're a pretty good match for the paint chips that I've seen in some of my reference books. I've been brushing them but it would probably be better to thin it out slightly and use an airbrush. The paint tends to leave some fairly obvious brush marks. But they go away when you spray on a little Model Master lusterless dull coat. That took my experience from Man this stuff is garbage to Wow this is a pretty excellent result When I run out I may replace with acrylics rather than enamels for the faster drying time and the water clean up. But I've not found a reason yet to replace the Model Master USN colors that I've still got. So again, if you're going to apply these with a brush, use some kind of clear coat.

"Good Match for Early War color"
adevine94
This Model Masters enamel is an accurate match for the US Navy's early war 5-N color, but the later war 5-N color was darkened to something closer to MM's Dark Sea Blue color. In addition to the early war USN 5-N paint, this can be used for a near perfect match to Luftwaffe Uniform Blue (c.f. Vallejo Model Color 70.816), except in enamel form. Paint thinned and sprayed well for an enamel after being thoroughly shaken and thinned in a 2 parts paint to one part thinner ratio. One caveat is that Model Masters enamels must be given a longer time to dry than equivalent acrylic and lacquer paints, but I prefer them because the finish is much more resistant to handling than acrylic coats and doesn't require lacquer thinner, which can damage models without proper surface preparation.
