SB2C Helldiver Plane for USS Essex

Bought these as an upgrade to my Enterprise 1/700 Academy kit. Wanted to build/paint her as she appeared in the later part of 1944, and well worth the price as far as I'm concerned. Pretty accurate design; one look and you know they are Avengers. I like the fact that the props and landing gear come as separate pieces instead of the weird stumps or struts that you get with some kits of this scale. As for cons, there are few and I'm nitpicking them: the part of the landing gear strut that fits into the wing gear is a little large so you have to shave a little bit off. Not a big deal. Also, the decals are all one size in terms of scale. I ordered a set from Starfighter Decals that specifically match the Big E's airgroup from mid-to-late '44 and according to the included instructions, as well as what I've been able to find online, the insignias were different sizes in relation to what was on fuselage and wings. The supplied star and bar insignia look like they match the 35 size, which is what apparently is good for the fuselage but not for the wings, which had 45. They also come with black and white plane numbers to go along with whatever paint scheme you choose to use, so that's nice. I suppose another nitpick is that it would be nice if they had some folded wing options in the box, but again, not a deal breaker. Finally, you get 18 planes per package...more than enough to equip several carriers. i used six of these to go along with six Helldivers and Hellcats, and that's more than enough to fill the 1/700 deck of the Enterprise.
