Inspired by the panoramic view from the cab of a new F unit diesel in 1944, the Dome-Coach became one of the traveling public's favorites in the late 1940s. The lower level was fitted with standard coach seats: those in the dome were provided at no charge and offered passengers a superb view of the scenery in any direction.
