Product Features
- Unlike most bulk loads, wood chips are so light that a huge quantity can be carried in a rail car. Specialized wood chip loaders insure the car is filled to capacity. Most loaders are just a simple elevated platform that supports a pipe coming from the wood chipper and a large box-like device that directs the flow of chips into the car. In turn, the box has a large lid, or plenum, that allows the car to be filled over the top so more chips can be carried.
- Chip loaders are built close to the mill, in an area with clearance for a siding. As mills grew, it was easier to add loaders rather than build larger ones, so a modern mill may have five or six.
- This detailed kit captures the simple construction of a typical modern loader. Several can be used to update the Mountain Lumber Co. Sawmill (933-3058), and its a natural with the Greenville 7000 Cubic Foot Wood Chip Hoppers (932-5780 series), all sold separately.
