"XF-88 Voodoo 1/48 Scale - Lindberg"
This XF-88 Voodoo kit has some good qualities to it. (Note: This plane, although never being a fighter in the USAF, was a big test bed for future projects. This all leading up to the famous F-101 Voodoo.) The 1st good quality is, as far as I know this is the only XF-88 kit in 1/48 scale. It can also be a great start to a super detailed kit. It has an engine and you can open up the panel to the engine and view it when the kit is completed. This would make a great starter and learning kit for a beginner in building models. The parts fit together well, they will need a bit of cleaning up on the edges, but really not that much for a kit of this age. (Original kit dates back to the 1950s.) So anyone building this out of the box will have a good little project and an interesting experimental aircraft from the early days of jet powered flight. The kit comes molded in white, and clear parts for the canopy. This kit also comes with a display stand, which is something you do not see much of in kits these days. The decals are really nice looking as well. One more thing to add, the kit comes with straight wing tips so you do not have to build it with the huge fuel tanks in the ends of the wings. (Most pictures I researched did not have those tanks on the plane.) Now onto the areas that can use improvement. (Remember if you are a beginner model kit builder you can try some of this out as well.) The first thing is there is a pilot and an ejection seat. That is all the detail in the cockpit. You will want to try to add some detail to this area, making some control panels is a start. The pilot is a big man, standing a good 7ft plus in scale. But you really won't notice this after assembly. The wing air intakes are just holes, this area could use some detail in it as well. The kit has no front wheel well, if you build the kit wheels down, this area could really use some help. Also you might want to add some detail to the wing wheel wells too. I give this kit 4 stars, due to the fact that it can be an interesting display in anyones airplane collection and it can be overall a good and fun project. Remember it is also not to expensive so you can test your skills for a good price.
