Model Rocket Launch Lug
est302320

A model rocket launch lug is a small cylindrical tube attached to the body tube of a model rocket, allowing the rocket to be guided along the launch rod during the rocket launch. A few samples are shown in the picture to the right.

The forces that a model rocket generates during liftoff, as well as how high the rocket must be to reach a stable flight velocity, determine how sturdy and how long the launch rod of the launch pad must be. The corresponding launch lug for the model rocket is just slightly larger in diameter than the launch rod, to minimize mis-aligned launches. For large rockets, more than one launch lug may be required.
