Spotlight Review

Greetings ! I received this model from my wife as a b-day gift & it was fun to build!Plan on doing some puttying & sanding since there are a few gaps to fill. The decals were tricky because they were very thin & tough to apply aft of the cockpit so be careful ! There is a nice resin pilot to paint & the cockpit is well done. I weathered the Viper w/grimy black powder & spent about a dozen hours completing the kit which turned out well. On the back of the box is a scene of a launching bay which can be used in a photo shoot w/your Viper ! COOL !!

"Some fit issues but overall a great kit!"
This is a fun kit to build and looks fantastic when completed. There are some fit issues along the way, so be prepared to breakout your Tamiya White Putty for most of the seams and particularly spend a good amount of time on the seam that splits the fuselage in half. The other nice thing about this kit is that there are plenty of aftermarket photoetch parts, pilot figures, decals, paint masks and bases available, so you can put as much time and effort into detailing it as you wish. As others have commented, the lighting options are good too, and I chose to light the cockpit, the main engines and add fiber optics to flash the thruster ports as well. Photos attached.

"Wonderful and Joy To Build"
I am 90% done with this model, so premature yes, but all I really need to do is weather it. Anyway, this is my second model after taking a 15 year hiatus. I was in middle school then but already quite skilled, it seems that age made up for lack of practice as these two recent models have blown away my past masterpieces, having a salary to buy all the right tools didn't hurt either. This was my first attempt at airbrushing, and what a difference it made. The parts fit well, except for the most detailed user, putty is not necessary. They are not labeled the best, but they are quite obvious. One part did come broken, but I worked through it and you wouldn't know even if I pointed it out. While it seems like an easy model, it is not, I would say upper level 2 on the Revell scale. Unlike any I've seen before....the stand is well built and balanced. Decals are awesome, perfect thickness although I did not like how some fit (cockpit). I wound up custom painting the screen because of that. Drawbacks was a very poor painting guide and failure to make a point to tell you to paint ALL PARTS in advance. As a huge BSG 2003 fan, I was not happy with the instructions on the pilot. They recommend a green/gold mix that is way off. I used two separate green/gold mixes plus 4 other colors to complete their 1 color pilot. All in all, wonderful and fun distraction. I already recommended it to a friend. The Cylon Raider is on order. Galactica and the MKVII are both in my wishlist. Psyched for the Pegasus release. Base color is: Gloss White (have a full Model Master bottle), you don't need to duplicate on paints (ie. gunmetal/gunmetal metallizer....just pick one). Model is molded in an ugly off-white yellow, so definitely be prepared to paint. You need superglue for the resin pilot (model glue doesn't hold). Rubberbands and binder clips are a must as you wont have enough hands to set some parts together. Insignia red not needed unless you choose to paint the stripes (well worth the effort), it comes with a second set of decals to detail the stripes if you paint them. Buy this one, you won't regret it. Pictures to be posted soon. I will put a completed as well as some work in progress pictures as soon as I'm done.

"Great Product"
I enjoyed making this model and plan on getting the battlestar next.
