During 1986, the state of Georgia leased loco number 750, a sparkling, high-wheeled 4-6-0 Pacific type from the Atlanta Chapter of the Railroad Historical Society. Originally built for the Florida East Coast Railroad, this loco was eventually sold to the Savannah and Atlanta railroad where it remained in service until retired. In the fall of 1973, when the Cumbres & Toltec was only two years old, it was a very different railroad than today. Double headers were the norm, and no passenger cars existed. Covered in this video is Mike #483, now out of service. This loco s stands in the Chama yard, but has not been run for many years. Mike 487 also helps out sporting its snowplow for these runs.
