A remarkable print of the westbound Cannonball at the Brookfield, Wisconsin, station in the 1960s. The Cannonball originally ran from Chicago to Milwaukee then on to Watertown, Wisconsin, where it divided into two sections, one going to Madison, th e other to Portage. The 5405 was one of the last of a series of Hudson-type locomotives built by the American Locomotive Company of the New York Central Railroad. Sixty-five L3 and L4 Mohawk-type 4-8-2 locomotives followed the Hudsons in the early 1940s. The final ste am locomotives were 27 Niagara-type 4-8-4 locomotives built in the mid 1940s.
