"Super Hornet is a Super value"
Ed H. (Byron, GA)
I just finished building the Revell 1/48 scale F/A-18F (two seat version) of this model. It is modeled after an early production Super Hornet with a few minor flaws but nothing drastically wrong. The seams are decent and the model goes together nicely with minimal filling and sanding needed. I substituted the plastic landing gear for a set of aftermarket metal gear because of the way the model set, I was not happy with the clearance of the rear fuselage but for the price of this kit you can't wrong. The decals in this kit are nice and crisp but I used a different decal set on mine to represent a VFA-32 Swordsmen jet, I did however use the kit decals for the instrument panels in the cockpit. Looks awesome.

A nice offering from Revell with plenty of detail. The only reao issue I had with this kit was that due to the way the Horzintial stabulator is enigered it makes the afterburner cans too shallow. Other than that I have no complaints.Care must be taken when assembeling the forward nose to get a good fit, but if taken carefully this is not a problem. The wheel wells are very nicely detaile and I like the intake trunks all the way to the engine faces. I used the Eduard PE cockpit detail set which adds greatly to the cockpit, but with carefull painting and dry brushing the cockpit still looks good and a nice decal for the instrument panel is provided on the decal sheet.(both powered and unpowered). The decal sheet only provides markings for a single aircraft, but there are plenty of aftermarket decal sheets out there. As a value for money kit IMO this is the best FA-18E kit on the market, you can get 4 of these for the cost of 1 Hasegawa FA-18 and I do not see where the detail is all that different other than the afterburner cans. I would recommend this kit. I have built 4 of these and have 3 in my stash waiting to be built.

"A good kit for the price"

This was a good kit to build, not great, but good. Like most of my recent experiences with Revell kits, this one posed some difficultly with parts not fitting together as well as one would like. To start, the instructions were nice, it is in a booklet form which I like. However, they seemed vague at times, for some of the smaller parts. I was disappointed the kit did not have enough weapons to fill all the pylons. It only includes 2x AIM-120's, 2x AIM-9's, and a fuel tank for below the fuselage, leaving 4 empty pylons. The detail was average and the molding of pieces could have been better, but I have seen much worse. Like most Revell kits the decals were great and worked well, the down side is you dont get a lot of options for markings, but a ton of decals for little details. Despite the problems I was happy with the final result, and Revell kits are very afordable and turn out well.

This is a good kit, superior to the Italeri F/A-18E. Great cockpit detail, full loadout, and a great two piece canopy +actuators for the choice of open or closed cockpit. The wheel bays are very detailed, some would say too detailed, as they include several molded in wires and electrical tubes. Also good surface detail.
