"Great Kit"
swiftriverred (Oregon)
I am really impressed with the quality of this kit. The fit and detail is excellent. I have really had a great time building this kit. It features a full tubular frame which is only partly visible when built. The motor is very detailed and accurate given the scale.

"Tricky kit"

I see all the great rating for the Stearman, but I had my issues with the kit. The model is listed as a level three kit and my skills were tested. First, the cockpit went together okay, but the throttle controls (part 19) bent when I put the assembly together and the final alignment didn't allow for the Y piece (part 72) at the very front to connect as shown. It didn't really matter as there is little you can see inside the cockpit but be careful when you put the fuselage top (part 8) on. I needed filler to get a nice fit. Cutting delicate parts off of the trees was also a challenge I haven't had in many, many, many, years. Be careful when detaching the engine rear (part 26) and push rods (part 27). Revell tries to protect them and trimming off what doesn't need to be there end up breaking a couple - my part. Also, Revell does a good job showing alignment but I didn't get a good fit with the engine on to the fuselage. Filler to the rescue again. I painted this and am giving this to someone who flew the aircraft and painted it all yellow, with red stripes, and went to the decal spares for black and white numbers. Other reviewers have said Revell missed some of the rigging wires but that would only be known by an expert. I used very thin metal wire and for the most part am happy the way it came out. So, with all my complaining I plan to build another, this time in Army markings. Its a great price, and in my humble opinion, will challenge your modeling skills. Have more fun than I did!!!

"Revell's 1/48th scale PT-17 Stearman Kaydet"

This little kit packs a big punch in detail. I have been building airplane models for over fifty years and I had never seen so much detail packed into such a small kit. Revell's PT17 Kaydet is in my view the best available model kit of this trainer. It's construction seems pretty straight forward. There are ten part trees, a decal sheet and a clear parts sprue. The kit comes molded in white plastic. After inspecting the parts trees it is very obvious that the mold makers took extreme care in not having ejector pin marks on the internal or external surfaces of the parts. The kit includes a complete internal tubular framework, fine detail of stringers and ribs inside the fuselage, a finely detailed cockpit area, with seat belts molded on he seats, rudder pedal, control sticks, throttle quadrants and instrument panels. The windshields look thin and are very clear. The fabric surface looks good for the scale. The engine is a multiparty affair and comes with mouths and accessories. It is gem! The kit provides a choice of propellers, a metal or a wooden prop. The detail on the wooden prop is outstanding. The decal sheet provides decals with wood grain texture and the metal edges. I will have to build two kits! In all, it is great value for its price. Revell's Stearman beats hand down the classic Linberg kit. It really is an outstanding model kit.

"more good things in small packages."
there are already plenty of rave reviews of this kit, but it really is sooooo great it deserves another. amazing frame, cockpit, engine surface detail. i suggest leaving the cockpit cowling removeable to view that great frame and control details.(see my pictures.) i also attempted to leave the front cowling just behind the engine removeable, but something seems to be holding it in place. there is nice equipment detail under there that would look good in a partially dissassembled state, perhaps in a diarama. get out the tweezers and precision glue applicators, and have some real fun with this one, it's a gem, really! absolutely recomend it to modellers with some experience.
