The Viking sounding rocket family was developed by the US to provide a better vehicle than the German V2. New $26.95. In the 1950's, several of the Viking rockets were designed and flown by the US Navy. As part of a scientific mission, the Viking 7 climbed to 136 miles, and beat the altitude record of the V2. The semi-scale model flies to more reasonable altitudes on a cluster of 2 model rocket motors. Try two B's for a smaller launch site, or go wild with two C motors. Decals are included for the black, and white, lettering on the model rocket. Features: There are three bands which go across the rocket's airframe to add detail to the model. Small rectangles glued on the pre-cut fi

During the 1960's, the Frangible ARCAS was developed as a rocket that could be flown over residential areas. New $26.95. To avoid damage to property, or injury, upon landing, the rocket was destroyed in mid-air. It has a sheet of explosive material wrapped around the airframe. Once the explosive was triggered, the rocket was reduced to particle sizes with acceptable levels of kinetic impact energy. The scale Frangible ARCAS model separates at motor ejection and descends under a parachute. The kit doesn't get blown to pieces and can enjoy many flights, as opposed to the real deal. Features: The explosive sheet wrapped around the airframe is created by cutting two short tube sections
