"Its a Shame its not a Tamiya. Beautiful Bird."
JRB (Burleson, Texas)
I hate to say how disappointed I am with this kit. It is produced somewhere in Eastern Europe and only they could butcher such a beautiful American Grumman Airplane. I was excited to find this unit but it lasted only as long as it took to start the build. The parts were all poorly cast and the fit was horrible. All half parts had NO locator pins and wanted to align anyway they could other than correctly. Even after taping parts they would slip slightly causing undo scraping and sanding. Not to mention the filling and sanding. Most large parts had warp. The instructions were vague to horrible. They even forgot to include certain steps like putting the dashboard in. I thought building the 18 cylinder engine would be interesting until I realized all the parts were of very bad pot plastic. The stuff was rotten and broke easily or just crumbled. I really hate to keep on about this kit considering the plane was a beautiful bird. The kit gave you parts to change it from the radar/sonar Hunter version to the torpedo/bomber version but absolutely no instructions on converting it. Probably a good thing because it was just a bunch of bad parts anyway. The decals were totally rotten and as thin as mantle ash and thats exactly what it was like in trying to place them. They even mis-numbered the decals and after installing them, a day later some started to peel off on their own. If you look at my photos, dont look too close. Theres one peeling as I was shooting the pictures. I would not recommend this kit to any serious builder because of the irritability brought on by trying to have the patience needed to produce anything acceptable. Its such a shame it isnt a Tamiya. A solid thumb down. See my Photos.
