"great"

so enjoyed doing this build. everything fit together so very well. did have a little issue with canopy. loved the rocket tubes and the bombs to make this into a flying tank. First tamiya kit ive done and am now looking at all their offerings. I took coloring liberty's with this. did a cammo in sky blue and navy blue. with dull grey under belly. looks unique. Im not into creating exact copies and being more creative with this aspect of the build. in fact i just did an all pink P51D for my wifes office. highly recommended kit ....no doubt.

"Amazing detail"
BlucherFamily (Overland Park, KS)
This is one of my favorite aircraft from WWII, and I have built the Revell kit before. The reason I bring up the Revell kit is this one from Tamiya is superior in almost every way possible. No over flash and parts come off their sprues cleanly with little if any cleanup required. The fit is also amazing, almost too perfect to believe and no puttying required. One of the key differences and surprisingly so, was parts on leading edge surfaces such as machine guns and radio masts were not molded in place but needed to be fitted. I was very impressed with that one little feature, as in handling wings and fusilage on other kits , protruding molded pieces like these can often be damaged or get broken off. The advantage of fitting them is that this can be done last after all the handling has been done and that is exactly how it should be. Once complete and painted this kit is remarkably life like, and the detail really does add to the realism. You will enjoy building this kit and enjoy the finished result even more.

"Excellent model of tough American fighter"

The P-47D Razorback is another outstanding kit from Tamiya. Quality of parts and fit are excellent, with no trouble spots encountered throughout the build. Tamiya's superb engineering really shines in this kit. The cockpit is well detailed and you get a nice pilot figure to go in it. Decal options for two planes are included, although I made some custom decals to model the plane flown by the father (Capt. Airus Bergstom) of a friend. You can load the plane up as a ground attack fighter, or as a long range bomber escort. You also get options for flaps up or down, side vents open or closed, canopy open or closed and several types of propellers. Clear parts for wingtip lights, armored window up front and gunsight are included. Two types of wheel hubs, as well as two types of external fuel tanks are provided. All panel lines are nicely and evenly inscribed and look really good under a coat of paint. Instruction manual is clear and confusion free and gives excellent painting and decal guidance. Overall, a great kit that was super fun to build and paint.

"Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Thunderbolt - captain Walker Mahurin of the 56th Fighter Group"

Tamiya is always high quality, it's always a pleasure to build. The set is excellent. A little bit of things to modify in places, roll a rivet, make brake hoses, modify the engine. This set can be recommended to both a child and an adult, and even an experienced modeler. Information

In 1943, the 8th Air Force was launching raids on Germany with its B17 and B24 from England. The aim was to destroy German main production factories. Unfortunately, losses during theses missions were very heavy and it became urgent to develop a fighter able to escort the bombers over enemy soil. The limited ranges of the Spitfire and P-38 Lightning did not make these fighters able to go further than Paris, leaving the bombers alone to fend for themselves for the rest of the flight. With the development of the P-47, this problem was overcome. The P-47 was the first single-seated fighter to be equipped with a supercharger, allowing it to fly at the same high altitude as the bombers. This high-flying fighter was armed with eight 12.7mm machineguns that proved very useful in the intense fighting that occurred in the European skies. Equipped with drop tanks for longer range, the P-47D was then able to escort the bombers all the way to the German border. The Thunderbolt also allowed many Allied pilots to become Aces. Bomber crews plagued day after day by intensive German interceptions, would remark that the presence of the P-47 was of great help.
