If you want to get into Model Ship Building, make sure you try out a few of the cheaper plastic models first. Wooden ships are much more difficult and expensive to build. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the parts and rigging with the cheaper plastic ones.

If starting with wooden boats get a pre carved hull instead of the plank by plank. They are easier and less expensive.

If you're putting in oil and rust stains, study real pictures and notice where they are.
