This is an outstanding model especially for the price. 1:350 is still very small for a submarine of this size (311' to about 10.5) AFV Club provides some extremely small but highly details pieces that contribute to the overall learning experience and fun of putting this boat together. AFC considerately includes several extra of the smallest pieces since they are easy to lose even when being very careful. One of my favorite features of this model is that you get to construct the interior pressure hull for both the main and hull and conning tower. This is a feature that ultimately can not be viewed went the model is completed but adds to the overall experience and attention to detail. There are no modifications that have to be made to the model for it to sit on the stand provided. Though not specify called out in print this ship is USS Cutlass a Trench Class US Submarine that had the GUPPY II upgrade. However the hull design and modifications to the sail were such that this model could double for almost any Trench or Balao Class with the GUPPY II or IIa modification. After decommissioning the Cutlass was sold to Taiwan and became the ROCS Hai-Shih, which this model can also be configured as. AFV is a Taiwanese company and their pride in this ship is evident.
