"Nakajima B5N2 Kate Bomber"

This 1/72 scale kit is from a British model company called Airfix! Mighty fine company indeed. It has two paint schemes; the one I've chosen is from the IJN carrier Shokaku, Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941. The other is from the 553rd Kokutai, April-October 1944. The aircraft also had the option of having it's wings folded or not. I've chosen the folded since I never did one before! The aircraft itself is rather pleasant to build although one of the landing gears just wouldnâ€™t stay upright. So I had to resort of using hot glue to correct this problem. The hardest part of this kit was the painting of the Dark Green stripes along with a questionable choice of using Satin Hemp color for the entire aircraft that in the end doesn't look like it on the cover of the box or the illustrations in the instruction manual. But besides that, I highly recommend this kit to anyone! You also have a wide variety of bombs or torpedo to put on your kit!

"This is not your grandads airfix kit!"

WOW! All the horror stories about the old airfix kits and their bad fit and overdone panel lines are gone with this one. This kit was fantastic. Kit comes with 5 gray sprues and 1 clear sprue. There are 3 pilots included as well. The kit is very nicely molded with excellent panel lines that seem to be right in scale. Some of the sprue gates are a little heavy and require attention when cutting them off the sprues. Some of the parts are covered in ejector pins and others don't have any. There are tons of options with this kit ( folding wings, open or closed canopy, retracted or extended landing gear, and extended or retracted flaps as well as weight on wheels). The kit comes with 2 types of bombs and a torpedo. All the control surfaces (ailerons and rudder) are posable. There is a little bit of flash on some parts, but nothing a swipe with the sander won't fix. Some parts are keyed to prevent you from putting them on the wrong side. The colors are only in Humbrol so you will need a good conversion chart if you don't use those. The kit went together beautifully. I will definitely be getting some more of the re-tooled airfix kits if they're all like this one.
