So glad AMT retooled/repopped this kit (and the 60 also). Simple to build but easy to modify. Thank you Round 2/AMT!

There are good and bad parts about this kit. The good very little flash or mold lines. Many combinations for rims. Nice tires. Camper is easy to assemble. Decals include gauges and scripts so glad for that. Now the bad. Crappy engine. Crappy frame with exhaust built in and it stops inside the frame midway. Panel lines are very weak. Interior lines are weak and lacks much detail. This is still a nice kit and with the camper it is a big model. Now if they would make a 63 step side.

As I've discovered lately, the announcement of a newly tooled kit can be a mixed bag. I had to remind myself that this one was not announced as a 2-in-1, which means that it really is meant to be a camper, rather than a commercial or service vehicle. That's a shame because it gave Round 2 an excuse to do very little inside the bed. There are no inside panels here. Just bare outside sheet metal and fenders. I wonder why they bothered to include several 2-piece accessories with this kit, all of which imply the truck's use as a commercial or service vehicle!? Why not add some accessories for the camper, like maybe an awning, some chairs, or a Weber grill? Sure, they added a ladder and railings, but I just can't imagine anyone in real life using such a thing. Maybe during a flood?! And look at the bed itself. It's all metal slats with a few rivets showing (yawn). Follow up with very limited interior details, a tailgate that's molded in place, and a 1-piece chassis, and you'd never assume this to be a landmark step forward for Round 2. The kit does assemble almost flawlessly, though. I say almost because I did not find the camper that easy to assemble. The angles just did not look right, and the corners required a good deal of finger clamping and sanding to get them looking like a real life molded camping top. I did appreciate the wide gluing extensions on each clear window, though. Recommended - with reservations.
